Derek O'Mahony
Tipperary referee, Derek O’Mahoney, will be the man in the middle when Donegal play their final Group 3 game in the All-Ireland Championship in McHale Park, Castlebar on Saturday next (3 pm).
O’Mahoney is an experienced official from the Ardfinnan club in Tipperary and was in charge of the Donegal-Dublin All-Ireland minor semi-final in 2014 in Croke Park.
Saturday’s game is a very important game for Donegal as they need to win and they will be hoping that Tyrone can also do them a favour as they will be playing Cork in the other group 3 game at the same time in O’Connor Park, Tullamore.
There are a number of permutations and the best scenario for Donegal would be a narrow win for Tyrone over the Rebels. A Donegal win then would bring all three teams on to four points in the table. If that occurs Donegal have to have a margin of victory of three points more than Tyrone’s win over Cork.
Before the final two games Cork are in pole position on four points while Donegal and Tyrone are both on two points. On score difference Tyrone are best with +7, Donegal are +5 while Cork are +4.
Obviously if Cork win or draw, they will top the table and go straight to the quarter-final draw.
