Dylan Duffy struck 1-3 for Buncrana in their Senior Hurling League win over Aodh Ruadh on Friday
Buncrana 5-15 Aodh Ruadh 1-5
Buncrana put up another big score against a game but outgunned Aodh Ruadh side at The Scarvey in the Senior Hurling League.
The home team, who defeated Dungloe 4-16 to 1-9 on the opening weekend, did go briefly behind to an early goal and a point from the Ballyshannon side but came through in the end with a bit to spare.
Buncrana quickly re-asserted themselves and were well worth their 3-8 to 1-3 lead at the break.
Buncrana had early pointed frees from marksman Caolan O’Neill but were rocked by an eighth-minute goal from Aodh Ruadh’s Darragh Cleary and points from Daniel Breen and Cian McKenna.
That only sparked Buncrana and young Kevin O’Rourke found the Aodh Ruadh net in the 12th minute to give them a solid platform. Dylan Duffy and Ciaran McLaughlin added two more goals as the points flowed from the elegant Kevin O’Rourke, Duffy and McLaughlin.
It did not get any better for the visitors in this 13-a-side encounter as Buncrana tacked on 2-7 to their opponents’ 0-2. O’Neill continued to tap over the points for the home side while Peter Grant and McLaughlin added further goals. Breen and McKenna responded with points for the Ballyshannon men as Buncrana cantered home.
