Kieran Brady was the star of the show for Burt who were well worth this victory in a hard-hitting affair against Setanta at a blustery Hibernian Park in the Senior Hurling League.

Brady hit 1-7 in a masterful display in a match where the wind was a major factor and all of Setanta’s scores came from frees.

Burt had the benefit of it in the first half and deservedly led by 2-6 to 0-3 at the break. Brady opened the scoring with four points on the trot in the opening 10 minutes - three of them from play. He also converted a penalty in the 18th minute after he was fouled by Setanta keeper Kevin Campbell.

Bernard Lafferty landed two frees for the visitors, but Burt struck for a killer goal in the 23rd minute when Ciaran Porter smashed the sliotar to the net from 12 yards.

Lafferty pointed another free with Colm Toner and Jack Gallagher getting the home side’s remaining scores at the break.

Setanta had the wind in the second half but hit 10 wides, while Burt defended in numbers.

Brady landed the first score of the second half, and he swapped points with Lafferty to make it 2-8 to 0-4 nine minutes into the second half. Lafferty and Campbell pointed for Setanta from frees.
Play was scrappy and Campbell converted a free for the visitors with Brady getting the last point of the game.
