St Mary's Convoy defeated Burt on Saturday
Burt 0-5
Convoy 1-5
Padraig Gordan scored a last-minute goal to snatch a dramatic win for St Mary’s, Convoy against Burt in an otherwise lacklustre Division 3 opener in Hibernian Park on Saturday evening.
Wing forward Gordan did well to get a fist to a long high ball into the Burt goalmouth to flick past Emmet Doherty, in the St Mary’s goal.
That was in the 60th minute and there was no time for the locals to recover and St Mary’s claimed the precious two league points at the end of a tie that looked like it had a draw written all over it from very early on.
In what was a very defensive encounter Burt led by two points, 0-4 to 0-2, at the break. Calvin Gallagher (2), Keith McColgan and Jack O’Brien scored the points for Burt while Liam Toye and Bryan McNamee posted the Burt points.
Burt went two up in the second half but St Mary’s finished strong and John Doherty and Gordon tied up the game late on before the last minute drama and Gordon’s late three- pointer sealed it.
