Niamh McLaughlin will skipper Donegal once more in 2024.

Ahead of their opening round fixture in the Lidl Lades NFL Division 2 away to Laois today, Donegal have confirmed that Moville's  McLaughlin will lead the team in 2024 with Katy Herron from Glenfin and Roisin Rodgers of Naomh Muire named as joint vice-captains for the season ahead.

McLaughlin was initially named as Donegal captain ahead of the 2021 campaign and last year led the side to success in the Ulster LGFA Senior Championship, following on from being named as an All-Star in 2022, as well TG4 Senior Players' Player of the Year award at the LGFA annual All Star banquet. She spent the end of 2023 in the AFLW (Australian Women's Football League) with the Gold Coast Suns.

Herron is one of only five Donegal players to have won all five of their Ulster crowns and the only one in the panel at present. Nicole McLaughlin, Emer Gallagher, Niamh Hegarty and Karen Guthrie all played their part in the successes of 2015, 2017, 2018, 2019 and last season. Rodgers has been part of the Donegal senior panel since 2019 and last year picked up a Rising Star award for her performances for ATU Sligo for her showings at Higher Education Colleges finals in Mayo.

Today's fixture at the Laois Centre of Excellence marks the first game in charge for John McNulty, who previously managed Aodh Ruadh, Kilcar, St Naul's and the Donegal Masters. McNulty has handed Eva Gallagher from Kilcar a first senior start.
