Oisin Gallen of Donegal in action against Ryan O'Toole of Monaghan during the GAA Football All-Ireland Senior Championship Round 3 match last year
Donegal will take on Monaghan in the semi-finals of the Dr McKenna Cup this Sunday.
The side managed by Jim McGuinness topped Section A of the competition, despite having their 3-16 to 1-6 win over Armagh scrubbed having fielded an illegal player. Their reward is a trip to face Monaghan, who won Section C, at Castleblayney on Sunday, throw-in 1pm. In the other semi-final, Armagh take on Derry at the Athletic Grounds on Saturday at 4pm.
Donegal defeated Tyrone 0-15 to 1-10 on Sunday in Omagh, while Monaghan made the last four thanks to a 1-15 to 0-13 success over Antrim and then a 2-9 to 0-12 win against Fermanagh in Enniskillen.
Donegal last faced Monaghan in the round-robin series of the All-Ireland SFC last June, with Aidan O'Rourke's team winning out 0-19 to 0-17, although it was Vonny Corey's troops who enjoyed the more fruitful summer as they reached the semi-finals before losing out to Dublin.
