Oisin Bonner was in top form for Dungloe against Buncrana on Thursday
Dungloe gave their promotion hopes a major shot in the arm with Thursday night’s win over fellow Division 2 promotion chasers Buncrana - with Oisin Bonner landing four goals.
Dungloe 4-12 Buncrana 1-12
Full-forward Oisin Bonner was in sparkling form and scored 4-1 in all in a man-of-the-match performance. On the night Dungloe had eight different scorers.
John Campbell top-scored for Buncrana with 1-5, while Caolan McGonagle who had another fine game in the middle of the field, posted three points. The win moves Dungloe up into third place in the league table, a point behind Naomh Columba, who are in second place and seven points behind runaway leaders Glenswilly, who have a game more played.
Buncrana are just one point adrift of Dungloe and level with points with Termon. The first half of the keenly contested high-stakes encounter at Rosses Park was closely contested with little between the sides. The locals led 1-3 to 0-5.
But the game opened up in the second half and thanks to three goals from man of the match Bonner, Dungloe outscored Buncrana 3-9 to 1-7 and claim the two precious league points.
With Glenswilly almost home and hosed, long-time leaders Naomh Columba, Dungloe, Buncrana, Termon, Four Masters and Ardara are still in the promotion race in what is a very competitive Division 2
