Labour Party councillor Martin Farren celebrating his election with his family
Labour Party councillor Martin Farren has dedicated his election in the Carndonagh local electoral area to his late wife Eileen who died in 2020.
The Moville man, who was first elected 15 years ago, took the fourth seat in the north Inishowen area on the seventh count after recording 1,001 first preference votes, a fall of almost 400 votes.
His vote was heavily impacted by the surge for the 100% Redress Party. He said he felt “very, very proud” to have the opportunity to once again represent the people of north Inishowen.
Thanking council staff for all their help over the 15 years, he said he looked forward to working with them once again. He also thanked his family and his “right-hand man” Seamus Bovaird.
“I’ve worked extremely hard and obviously people came out and voted and that’s why I’m standing here today. Without your vote I wouldn’t be.
“I feel very, very proud to have been given the opportunity to represent the people of north Inishowen for the next five years and I’m very proud to be here. It has been a difficult few years, we lost a person very precious to us. I’d like to dedicate this to my wife.”
