Charles Ward says he is ready for any opportunity to work with the Government

The two Government parties are “not committed to a genuine 100% redress” Donegal TD Charles Ward has said following the release of the new Programme for Government.

The 100% Redress Party TD said he was “unable and unwilling to enter into government formation talks” without such a commitment from the two parties that will make up the next government with the support of various independent TDs.

The Drumkeen-based TD said he has been “given a mandate by the people of Donegal to represent owners of defective homes and to fight for a scheme that is fit for purpose and based on science”.

He said he has written to the negotiators of Fianna Fáil, Fine Gael and the Regional Independent Group of independent TDs, and while he did not receive a reply, he is “hopeful and ready for any opportunity to meet and work with the Government to properly address the humanitarian crisis that is impacting thousands across Ireland”.

“In my correspondence, I outlined four key issues: immediate action on technical review, restoring confidence in the housing agency, addressing financial hardship and prioritising support for vulnerable groups,” he said.

Mr Ward said that he welcomes the Programme for Government’s commitment to establish a Building Standards Regulatory Authority and to undertake a planned review of the defective concrete blocks scheme.

But he added that “full and proper implementation of these commitments is crucial”.

“I will continue to fight for full 100% redress and remain committed to ensuring owners of defective homes have an effective and active voice in the Dáil Éireann.”
