Campaigners invite council to defective blocks information meetings

The Mica Action Group has invited Donegal County Council to attend a series of information evenings on the defective blocks remediation scheme it is hosting.

The move comes after Donegal TD and agriculture minister Charlie McConalogue asked the council’s defective blocks committee to organise public meetings to “fully inform”  homeowners about the new scheme, which opened in July.

Mica Action Group chair Lisa Hone said the information evenings, which are taking place across the county over the coming weeks, are “an opportunity for Donegal County Council to communicate immediately and directly to impacted homeowners”.

She said the series of meetings, which are running through September and October, are “to try and provide the most up-to-date information to impacted homeowners” adding that it makes sense to offer these as a platform to the council “to be able to relate vital information to homeowners”.

Ms Hone said a lack of communication and lack of clarity of information from the council and the Department of Housing have “unnecessarily increased homeowners’ anxiety and frustration by leaving them in limbo”.

The first of the meetings took place in Malin Head on September 11 and will continue at Ray Community Centre on September 19 at 7pm, Greencastle Community Centre on September 28 at 7pm, Jackson’s Hotel, Ballybofey on October 2 at 7pm,  Station House Hotel, Letterkenny on October 2 at 7pm and Inishowen Gateway Hotel, Buncrana on October 16 at 7pm.

“We had a great attendance at the information evening in Malin Head, and it was invaluable to be joined by Sarah Shovlin of the Banking and Insurance Redress Focus Group,” Ms Hone added.
