There is a focus on accommodation in the survey due to the lack of temporary accommodation for homeowners facing the rebuilding of their homes

The Mica Action Group is calling on defective concrete blocks homeowners to take part in a survey aimed at collating information on the mica crisis.

The questionnaire has been emailed to all members of the group and is aimed at collecting evidence and gaining insight into how people are affected. The last such survey by the group was carried out in 2021.

Around 5,000 homes in Donegal are believed to be affected by defective blocks and many of these will require demolition and rebuilding.

Lisa Hone, chair of the group, said there is “a need for data and evidencing of the issues we are facing so we that we have the evidence” that then can be matched to solutions.

She called on every affected homeowner and family to complete the survey, which she said will help the group push its agenda out to the media.

There is a focus on accommodation in the survey due to the lack of temporary accommodation for homeowners facing the rebuilding of their homes.

“We really need an insight into that - we need to quantify it, we need to qualify it. The more completed questionnaires we have, the more robust and convincing [is] our data.”
