Death notices and funeral arrangements for Donegal on Monday evening, December 8

The following deaths have taken place:

Peter Gilmartin, Cork and Bundoran

The death has occurred of Peter Gilmartin, Monkstown, Cork and formerly of Bundoran.

He passed away on December 20, peacefully in the presence of his sister Dympna and in the tender care of the wonderful staff at Marymount.

Beloved partner of the late Eileen and dear brother of Dympna and Bernadine. Sadly missed by his loving sisters, brother-in-law Colin, nephews Mark and Steven and their families, relatives, neighbours and many friends.

 Reposing at Fordes Funeral Home, Old Waterpark, Carrigaline on Monday, December 29 from 1:00pm until 2:00pm, followed by cremation at The Island Crematorium at 3:00pm.

No flowers please donations if desired to Marymount.

Memorial Mass and Burial of Ashes will take place in Bundoran at a date to be confirmed.


James Carr, Bruckless

The death has occurred of James Carr, Curraghfeehan, Bruckless in the caring hands of the staff at Donegal Hospice surrounded by his loving family, after a short illness.

Predeceased by his parents, Peter and Sarah. Will be sadly missed by his fiancé Yvonne, his brother Francis, sisters Mary (Pat) and Dolores, his aunts Annie and Breege, nephews Nathan and Rion, niece Tori, extended family, neighbours and friends.

Remains reposing at Shovlin's Funeral Home, Ardara, F94 A250 on Wednesday, December 24 from 1pm to 6 pm.

Funeral Mass on Friday at 11 am in the Church of Saint Joseph and Saint Conal, Bruckless, with burial afterwards in the adjoining cemetery.

Family flowers only please, donations in lieu if desired to Donegal Hospice care of any family member.

The house is strictly private please to family and neighbours only.

Charles Solan, Dublin and Dungloe

The death has occurred of Charles (Charlie) Solan Tallaght, Dublin and formerly of Dungloe.

He passed away on December 21, peacefully at Tallaght Hospital, following a long illness, with his loving family by his side. 

Beloved husband and best friend of MaryFrances and loving dad to Brian, David, Sandra, Michael, Shane, Josh and Katie. 

Charlie will be forever loved and always remembered by his family, brothers Roger and John, his much loved and cherished grandchildren Isobel, Emma, Seán, Max, Mae, Mylo and Tadhg, extended family, friends and wonderful neighbours and his four-legged friend Ruby.

 Reposing in his home on Saturday, December 2  from 5pm until 7pm and Sunday from 5pm until 7pm. 

Funeral Mass will take place on Monday at 11am in Sacred Heart Church, Killinarden, Tallaght, following onto Newlands Cross Crematorium.

 Family flowers only. Donations if desired to Tymon North Nursing Home.

Eileen McKinney, Buncrana

The death has taken place in Letterkenny University Hospital of Eileen McKinney, 7 Marian Park, Buncrana.

Daughter of the late Betty and Jimmy RIP.

Dear sister of Elizabeth, Pauline, Frank, Patricia, Peter, Una Bronagh and the late Lawrence.

Sadly missed by her neice’s, nephew’s family circle and friends.

Remains reposing at her residence from 4pm on Tuesday, December 23 and on Wednesday and Thursday.

Funeral from there on Friday at 10.30 am going to St Mary’s church, Cockhill for 11am requiem Mass with burial afterwards in the adjoining cemetery.

Swetlanna Krasnikova,  Malin Town and Bridgend

The death has taken place at the Donegal Hospice of Swetlanna (CвeTлана) Krasnikova formerly of Ukraine and lately of Malin Town and Bridgend.

Swetlanna is deeply regretted by her son in Ukraine, her daughter-in-law, her grandchildren, her close friends here in Ireland, her extended family and neighbours.

Her remains will repose at Kelly’s Funeral Home, F93YE1C, on Tuesday, December 23 from 12:00pm to 2:00pm and from 6:00pm to 8:00pm, where all are welcome to pay their respects.

Swetlanna’s funeral will take place at Kelly’s Funeral Home on Wednesday at 1:00pm with interment afterwards in Parish of Cloncha Cemetery, Malin.

Family flowers only please, donations in lieu if desired to the Donegal Hospice c/o Blaine McCarron-Kelly’s Funeral Directors.

Wee Barney McFadden, Falcarragh

The sudden death has taken place of Wee Barney McFadden, (The Gap) Derryreel, Falcarragh.

Predeceased by his parents Mary and Neil and his sister Madge.

Survived by his brother Neilly, brother-in-law John, niece Marie and her partner Chris, their children Caiden, Clodagh and Ava, and all of his extended family and friends.

His remains will be reposing at his late residence from 7.30pm on Monday, December 22 and Tuesday from 11am to 9.30pm.

Rosary both nights at 9.30pm.

House is private after the rosary and on the morning of the funeral.

Funeral Mass on Wednesday, at 12 pm in Holy Cross Church, Dunfanaghy, with interim afterwards in the adjoining cemetery.

Fiona Higgins, Letterkenny

The death has occurred of Fiona Higgins (née McGinley), 44 Glenoughty Close, Letterkenny, who passed away peacefully on Monday, December 22 surrounded by her loving family, in the wonderful care of the staff of Letterkenny University Hospital.

Predeceased by her father, Charlie McGinley and her brother-in-law, Ollie Horgan.

Beloved wife of Joe and devoted mother of Alison, Dónall, Rónan and Sarah.

Fiona will be sadly missed by her loving husband, daughters and sons, her mother Eileen and sisters, Anita, Maureen (Jack), Deirdre (Daithi), Michelle (Cormac), brothers Liam, Domhnall, Cathal and Donnacha (Áine) parents-in-law Margaret and Francis, sisters-in-law Tina and Rachel, brothers-in-law, Kieran and Frankie, nephews, nieces, relatives and many friends.

Reposing at her home 44, Glenoughty Close, Glencar, Letterkenny, (F92V0Y8), on Monday, December 22 from 6.00pm until 10.00pm and Tuesday from 10.00am to 10.00pm.

Family time after 10.00pm on Monday and Tuesday and on Wednesday Morning

Requiem Mass on Wednesday at 11.00am in St Eunan’s Cathedral, Letterkenny, which can be viewed online at www.churchservices.tv/letterkenny followed by interment in Conwal Cemetery.

Margaret Mallon, Kilmacrennan

The peaceful death has taken place of Margaret Mallon (née Whoriskey), Tawney Lower, Kilmacrennan, F92 WY98, surrounded by her loving family in the exceptional care of the nurses and staff of Áras Uí Dhomhnaill Nursing Home, Milford.

Dearly loved mother of Harry (Mary), Breda Morning (Frank), Gerry (Kathleen), Denis (Martina) and Shaun (Kathleen).

Deeply regretted and sadly missed by her 15 grandchildren, brothers Charlie, Eddie and John, sisters Betty Patton and Madge Wilson, nieces, nephews and a wide circle of family, friends and neighbours.

Predeceased by her beloved husband John, sisters Mary Mc Bride, Sadie Lafferty and Grace Durrell.

Reposing at her home from 3pm on Monday, December 22.

Requiem Mass on Wednesday at 11am in St Columba’s Church, Kilmacrennan, F92 VX23.

Burial afterwards in the adjoining cemetery.

Eugene Quinn, Donegal Town and Dublin

The death has occurred of Eugene Quinn Stoneybatter, Dublin, Donegal Knocklyon, Stoneybatter and formerly of Water Street, Donegal Town.

Eugene, passed away peacefully, surrounded by love, in the tender care of the staff of Fairview Community Unit.
He is predeceased by his father Peter, mother Mary B., brother John Bosco and his sisters Veronica and Helen.

He will be sadly missed by his partner Teresa, son Conor and Conor’s mother Anne, his brothers Charles, Dominic, Liam, John and Hugh, his sisters Mary, Teresa, Roisín and Nora, sisters-in-law, brothers-in-law, nieces and nephews, grand-nieces and grand-nephews, extended family and a large circle of friends.

Lying in repose at Fanagans Funeral Home, Aungier Street, Dublin 2 (D02 R702) on Tuesday, December 23 from 2.00pm to 4.00pm

He will make his final journey home to Donegal to repose again at the Tír Conaíll Funeral Home, Donegal Town (F94 FX3A) on Saturday, December 27 from 5.00pm to 7.00pm.

Eugene’s Funeral Mass will take place on Sunday, December 28 in St. Patrick’s Church, Donegal Town (F94 R5RK) at 11.30am.

He will complete his journey home thereafter when he will be laid to rest among his deceased family and friends in Clar Cemetery, in the grounds of St. Agatha’s Church, Clar, Co. Donegal (F94 VXT6).

Donations, in lieu of flowers, may be made in memory of Eugene to a charity of your choice.
