Cathal Patton, Convoy

The death has occurred of Cathal (Charles) Patton, Ballyboe, Convoy, F93FY9C.

He passed away peacefully and surrounded by his loving family. He will be lovingly remembered by his wife Margaret, son Gareth, daughter-in-law Francesca and grandchildren Declan, April and Islagh, brothers and sisters Elizabeth (John), Patsy (Margaret), Ann (Christopher), Mary (Gerry), John, Liam (Madeline), brothers-in-law, sisters-in-law, nieces, nephews and all his extended family, neighbours and many dear friends.

Cathal was predeceased by his parents Brigid and Charlie, May they Rest In Peace.

Cathal will repose at his late residence, Ballyboe, Convoy, F93FY9C on Thursday, July 10 from 2pm with Rosary at 9pm and on Friday, July 11 from 12.00pm with rosary at 9pm.

The funeral cortege will leave his late residence on Saturday morning at 10.30am going to St Mary’s Church Convoy for 11.00am Requiem Mass followed by burial in St Mary's old cemetery, Convoy.

John Callaghan, Burt

The death has occurred at his home of John Callaghan, Moness, Burt, and formerly Callaghan’s Shop.

Beloved husband of Teresa, much loved father of Annette, Paul, Mona, Shaun, Siobhan, Deirdre, Pearse and Orla, dear brother of Leena Sherry and Lavina Cullen.

Deeply regretted and will be forever missed by his loving wife, sons, daughters, sons-in-law, daughters-in-law, grandchildren, great-grandchildren, sisters, extended family, and friends.

John’s remains will be reposing at his home on Thursday, July 10 from 11am where all are welcome to pay respects. 

Family time, please, from 11:00 pm to 11:00 am. Family flowers only, please.

Removal on Saturday, July 12 at 10.15 am to St. Aengus’ Church, Burt for Requiem Mass at 11.00 am followed by interment in Burt Cemetery. Requiem Mass can be viewed live here.

Ann Drummond, Ballyshannon

The death has occurred of Ann Drummond, nee McDonagh, Ballure Lane, Ballyshannon, Donegal, F94A5W6.

She passed away peacefully surrounded by her loving family at North West Hospice.

Sadly missed by her loving husband Seán, and their children Shane (Rachael) Niamh (Mikey) and Ruairí (Kellyann), her grandchildren Donncha and Níadh, her sister Mary, and brothers Pat, Richard, Michael and Brian. Her brothers and sisters in law, nieces and nephews. Predeceased by her parents Dick and Bridgie McDonagh.

Reposing at her residence on Friday, July 11 from 12pm to 8pm. House private on the morning of the funeral please. Removal on Saturday morning to St Patrick's Church, Ballyshannon for 12pm funeral Mass with burial afterwards in the Abbey Cemetery.  Ann's Funeral Mass can be viewed live here.

Peter Carr, Dublin and Raphoe

The death has occurred of Peter Carr, Goatstown, Dublin and formerly of Raphoe, Donegal.

He passed away on July 6 2025, unexpectedly in Helsinki University Hospital, Finland with his children by his side.

Beloved husband of the late Anka and loving father of Tanja and Chris and beloved brother to Eimear and John.

He will be very sadly missed by his loving family, his grandchildren Clío and Rosa, step-grandson Jack, daughter-in-law Bobbi, son-in-law Zaine, sister-in-law Nalle, brother-in-law Jussi, his nephews & nieces and his grandnieces and nephews.

He will also be missed so much by all his extended family, friends and neighbours both in Ireland and Finland.

Valentine (Val) Maguire, Cavan and Bundoran

The death has occurred of Valentine (Val) Maguire, Cullies, Cavan and late of Bundoran.

Retired chief fire officer, Cavan, he passed away peacefully surrounded by his loving family in the wonderful care of the staff at Medical 2, Cavan General Hospital.

Pre-deceased by his loving wife Bernadette, daughter Jenny, son in law Gerry O'Brien. Beloved father of Isabel, Garret and Nessa, devoted grandfather of Conal O'Brien and Gleb Maguire.

Sadly missed by his loving, son, daughters, daughter in law Natalia, grandchildren, brother Kevin, sister in law, nephews, nieces relatives and friends.

Reposing at his home on Thursday, July 10 from 5.00pm until 9.00pm. Removal Friday morning, at 11.00am to the Cathedral of SS Patrick and Felim, Cavan, to arrive for requiem Mass at 11.30am. Interment afterwards in Cullies Cemetery.

Family flowers only, please. Donations in lieu, if desired, to Cavan-Monaghan Palliative Care, through donation box provided, or to Declan Finnegan, Funeral Director, or any family member.

Mary Roe (nee McKinney), Burnfoot

The death has occurred at the Donegal Hospice of Mary Roe (nee McKinney), Drumhaggart, Burnfoot.

Mary will be sadly missed and lovingly remembered by her loving husband Barry, sons Declan and Brendan, her mother Rosaleen, sisters Catherine and Philomena, brothers Kieran and Oliver, daughter-in-law of Marguerite and the late Thomas Roe (Meath).

Predeceased by her father Philip and brother Philip.

Mary’s remains will be reposing at her home from 6.00pm on Wednesday, July 9 where all  arewelcome to pay respects.

Removal from there on Friday, July 11 at 10.15am going to St Patrick’s Church, Iskaheen for Requiem Mass at 11am followed by interment in the adjoining graveyard. Family time please from 10.00pm to 10.00am.

Rosemary Boyd, Carrickfinn

The death has occurred of Rosemary Boyd (nee Barr), Carrickfinn at Donegal Hospice surrounded by her loving family.
Sadly missed by her husband Jim, daughters Lorna (Eoghan) and Fiona (Jon), and beloved granddaughter Gwen, sisters Kathleen and June(Ed), nieces, nephews, extended family and wide circle of friends.

Her remains are reposing at the family home in Carrickfinn, F94 X031. Funeral Service on Thursday, July 10 at 2pm in St Andrew's Church, Carrickfinn followed by interment in Dunlewey Old Church graveyard.

Paddy Joe Coyle, Raphoe

The death has occurred, peacefully and surrounded by his loving family, of Paddy Joe Coyle, Gortfad, Raphoe, Co. Donegal F93XP48.

He will be lovingly remembered by his children Edward (Raphoe), Marie Hickey (Mullingar), John (London), Evelyn Coyle (Mullingar), daughters-in-law and sons-in-law; Samantha, Pat, Dawn and Declan, his treasured grandchildren; Ciára, Niamh, Fiona, Gráinne, Emma, Éamon, Ultán, Áine:, his dear sisters Helena Howarth and Ann Foy and all his extended family, neighbours and many dear friends.

Paddy Joe was predeceased by his beloved wife Eva and sister Kathleen, May they Rest In Peace.

Paddy Joe will repose at his late residence, Gortfad, Raphoe F93XP48 on Wednesday, July 9 from 12.00pm, with Rosary at 9.00pm.

The funeral cortege will leave his late residence on Thursday morning at 10.30am – as Paddy Joe would say, ‘one last run around the Diamond’ to St. Eunan’s Church, Raphoe F93 HX20 for 11.00am Requiem Mass, followed by burial in the adjoining cemetery

Maureen Shanahan (nee Morning), Letterkenny and Fanad

The death has occurred at Letterkenny University Hospital of Maureen Shanahan (nee Morning), The Shieling,Ard O’Donnell, Letterkenny F922V6FW, formerly of Ballymagowan, Fanad. Retired Administrator, Letterkenny University Hospital and HSE.

Maureen is reposing at her home onTuesday, July 8 from 4pm- 9pm, and on Wednesday from 12 noon- 9pm, with Rosary both nights at 9pm.

Family time on the morning of the funeral.

Removal on Thursday, July 10, going to St.Eunans Cathedral for Requiem Mass at 11am with burial afterwards in Conwal Graveyard.

Rosemary Boyd, Carrickfinn and Letterkenny

The death has occurred in the Donegal Hospice of Rosemary Boyd, nee Barr, of Carrickfinn and formerly from High Road, Letterkenny.
Rosemary’s remains will be reposing at her own home On Tuesday, July 8 from 12 noon and again on Wednesday.

Service on Thursday at 2 pm in St Andrew’s Church, Carrickfinn, with interment afterwards in the Old Church, Dunlewey.
Donations in lieu if desired to the Donegal Hospice c/o any family member or Shaun McGlynn Funeral Director.

Irene Rintoul, Donegal Town

The death has occurred of Irene Rintoul, Donegal Town, formerly of Wicklow and Dublin.

Beloved wife to her late husband Greg, loving mother to Jamie (Nikola) and Jenny (Anthony), adoring grandmother to Max, Bonnie, Sam and Isla.

Predeceased by her parents James and Sarah, deeply missed by her siblings Sandra, Jimmy, Ken, Eric, Christine, all her extended family and a wide circle of friends and neighbours.

Irene’s kind nature touched everyone who had the privilege of knowing her. Thoughtful, generous, and endlessy caring, she gave her time and love freely to all around her.

Remains will repose at Gallaghers Funeral Home, Station Road, Mountcharles (F94 X02N) on Wednesday, July 9 from 3pm until 7pm.

Removal from there on Thursday, July 10 at 10.45am to Lakelands Crematorium, Dublin Road, Cavan (H12 RF78) for cremation at 1pm.

Joe O'Donnell, Jersey and Gortahork

The death has occurred suddenly on June 28 of Joe O’Donnell, St Helier, Jersey, and formerly of Ardsmore, Gortahork, Co. Donegal.

Predeceased by his loving parents Bernard and Gracie O’Donnell, he is sadly missed by his brothers David McNally and David O’Donnell, sisters Julie and Marianne O’Donnell, his nieces and nephews, Fionn, Naincí, Gracie, Úna, Sally, Maureen, Daphne and Oscar. Brothers- and sister-in-law Brian, John and Abi, extended family, neighbours, work colleagues and a wide circle of friends in Jersey and Donegal.

Funeral arrangements will be announced at a later date.

Spencer Sherwin, Barnesmore

The death has occurred suddenly at home, of Spencer Sherwin, Milltown, Barnesmore.

Sadly missed by his loving wife Catriona, Mum Dianne, Brother Paul and extended family.

Spencer’s remains will repose in Tír Conaíll Funeral Home, Drumrooske, Donegal Town, F94 FX3A on Saturday, July 12 from 5pm until 9pm. House private at all times please.

Funeral service in Lough Eske Church of Ireland, Drumnacarry, Barnesmore, F94 K400 Sunday, July 13 at 2.30pm followed by private cremation in Lakelands Crematorium, Cavan.

Philomena Murphy, Magheragallon and England

The recent death has taken place of Matilda Philomena (Mena) Murphy, née Dunlop, originally of Magheragallon, County Donegal. In her 98th year, Mena passed away peacefully in the presence of family members and under the care of staff at Darlington Memorial Hospital, on Monday, June 23.

Predeceased by her husband Pat, brothers and sisters John, James, Hughie, Paddy, Joe, Kevin, Grace, Jessie and Nora, she is sadly missed by her sister Mary in Australia and children Sean, Deirdre, Michael, Kathleen, Gerard and Adrian, grandchildren, great-grandchild, nieces and nephews.

Funeral Mass at 12 Noon, Thursday in St Augustine's RC Church, Darlington. In lieu of flowers, donations please to Stella Maris and Columban Missionaries.
