The Henry Girls nominated for RTÉ folk award as new album is released 

Inishowen group The Henry Girls have been shortlisted in the RTÉ Radio 1 Folk Awards in the same week that they released a new album.

The three sisters from Malin - Karen, Lorna and Joleen McLaughlin -  have been nominated in the Best Original Folk Track category for Not Your Fight, which was recorded along with Armagh-born singer Ríoghnach Connolly.

“We are very happy and also so happy to share the nomination with Ríoghnach Connolly, who we are huge fans of,” Lorna said.  

“It was such a great experience, both writing the song with her and then recording it with Tommy McLaughlin.”

Connolly is the current BBC Folk Singer Of The Year and was the artist in residence at The Nerve Centre, Derry when she wrote the song with Karen. 

The awards will be presented in  Vicar Street in Dublin on Tuesday,  February 27.

The announcement of the nomination came in the same week the group released their latest studio album, A Time To Grow.

The album was produced by the renowned producer Tommy McLaughlin at Attica Audio near Termon and was released on Friday. McLaughlin has previously worked with  Soak, Ailbhe Reddy and Pillow Queens.

"Collaborating with Tommy McLaughlin has been a transformative experience for us," Karen said. 

"This album is a reflection of our growth as musicians and our desire to create music that inspires and connects with people on a deeply emotional level."

The album was part-funded by the Arts Council of Ireland’s Music Industry Stimulus Package, which is managed by First Music Contact.
