National: RTÉ Room To Improve most iconic moments as Dermot Bannon show returns for new series

Daniel O'Donnell shock as budget sky rockets for his Donegal home

The brand new series of Room to Improve is back with the first of four new episodes airing on RTÉ this Sunday January 7.

Architect Dermot Bannon is set to meet Gráinne Murphy and Ivan Williams from Kilkenny who have been dreaming about renovating Ivan's ancestral old farmhouse near Urlingford.

With renovations, partial demolitions and extensions planned for their dream property, their budget is tight, but Bannon is no stranger to budget related problems as seen in shows last 13 seasons.

Below we take a look at some of the most iconic, and chaotic, scenes from the long running series

1.Quantity Surveyors

In this particular clip, Bannon is seen meeting, planning, and sometimes arguing with the shows appointed Quantity Surveyors who never fail to bring the architect back to reality.

2. Dream Clients

In 2018, Lorna and Rory from Stillorgan were shaping up to be Bannon's dream clients. From Budget to open plan living, everything seemed to be working in harmony, until Lorna, who studied interior design started challenging Bannon and before they knew it, nothing could be agreed upon.

3. Foundation Issues

No episode of Room to Improve is complete without something going completely wrong. This was the case back in 2016 for Mel and Aoife’s property in Baldoyle after a preliminary examination revealed a section of their existing house was built without any foundations, throwing the project and the budget into the air

2. A window is a window is a window

Back in 2018, Bannon was in Fermoy for his biggest ever Room to Improve build for clients Susie and Dave. Expensive visions for windows left Susie and Dave with a seemingly impossible decision to make after they sourced windows at half the price of the ones Dermot wants.

1. Daniel O'Donnell's shock as Dermot goes over budget

On one of the more famous episodes, Bannon is tasked with renovating Daniel and Majella O'Donnell's Donegal home, but as plans are made and tenders are put forward the Irish crooner is left in shock as the budget begins to sky rocket.

Watch the new series of Room to Improve on RTÉ One on January 7 at 9.30pm.
